Fluid Eating's Review of Shish Restaurant & Lounge Bar (closed)
With a name like Shish of course they serve kebabs but this is no late night drunken kebab house, in fact Shish is a rather stylish establishment. Walking by the restaurant you can't help but be impressed by its curved glass frontage and the downstairs bar has been completely refurbished and offers uncompromising style and cool comfort to try their new celebrity approved cocktail list. Diners can also sit at the counter to order the likes of falafel, Mediterranean lamb or Persian chicken at around £6.
Service is fast and friendly making this a fun place for a quick bite to eat. The set price lunch is a choice of two cold mezze then either chicken fattoush/honey and lemon salmon/halloumi shish (V) plus a bottle of stella or a mineral water.
Join their fresh food journey as they travel along the Silk Road bringing you great street food from Italy to China to which refreshingly they bake their own breads, make their own ice cream, prepare their own humus and all of their mezze. Don't confuse a shish with other types of kebab as these guys marinade their locally procured meats for their skewers (Shish!) and every day they simply purchase fresh produce and cook it to order.
If you are short of time they can happily get your food ‘to go’ as they offer the entire menu to take away. They are equally passionate about their drinks and buy kilos of fresh fruit daily to make their fabulous range of fresh juices. Definitely worth a trip to see what the press are raving about. To complement the drinks menu, a range of hot and cold mezzes and sharing plates (all of which are hand-made from produce sourced daily – as is the Shish ‘3 bread basket’) are available from the restaurant. Well-known favourites such as Humus, Tzatziki & Smoked Aubergine sit alongside Dushane (Lamb and Pumpkin) Dumplings, Chicken wrapped in Pandana Leaves, and Peking Duck and Vegetable Spring Rolls, are all authentically and expertly executed.

The cocktail list has created a glorious ‘East meets West’ of martinis, long drinks, champagne cocktails and signature ‘house’ drinks. Meticulously infusing a range of herbs and spices with exotic fresh juices (peeled, pulped and pressed daily on site), Greg has created a tantalising medley of drinks unique to Shish; Lychee and rose water are shaken together with vodka and topped with champagne to create the ‘Chinese Spring Punch’; Kumquats, passion fruit, fresh limes and Cachaça are muddled together to create the ‘Imperial Kumquat’; and Pear Puree and Cinnamon Syrup is shaken with Zubrowka and freshly pressed apple juice to create the ‘Eastern Orchard Cooler’.
Most exciting of all is their heavenly range of ice-cold Frappes (yes, alcohol is included) which combines one sweet and one sour ingredient served over crushed ice; Watermelon & Pink Grapefruit is mixed with Hendrick’s gin; Chives & Pineapple with vodka, Raspberry & Honey with gin, and Coconut & Black Pepper with Rum.
“Its true that Shish isn't a greasy kebab house, the food is delicious and theres more than kebabs on the menu although having said that the Mixed Shish Grill is amazing!!
They do have options for veggies though and is also child friendly.
In the evenings the downstairs bar , named Shish Below offers delicious snacks such as hot & cold mezzes and loveley cocktails in smart surroundings.
I highly recommend shish as it offers good food & drinks at very reasonable prices.”

“Terrible - service was appalling, food was uncooked. One of our party was given uncooked chicken (pink inside) and cold rice. completely over priced too. If you want second-rate fast-food, this is the place for you.”

“Decent food but terrible service, it took over 30 minutes to actually get a menu! I would have walked out if i hadn't heard such good things about the food. I am repulsed that a london restaurant can provide such rubbish customer care! I won't be returning!”
